  The Son of God? An Atheists view please.

  Firstly, I do not intend to cause offence to anyone. I apologise if what I am saying is blasphemous to some. I appreciate your views and mine may differ. I was just wondering, if you are an Atheist, for what reason do you think the bible was written?

  My view? I have come to two conclusions. 1- The bible was written to frighten or control men by men who wanted that control. The whole thing is made up stories to aid a monumental control of the people in a time when no other sources of information were available.

  Or 2- Jesus did exist. A man who either wanted power over people or had some sort of psychosis or other mental health problem that lead him to believe he was the son of the creator of all things. In a time when no one knew any better, people believed him, loved or feared him. Maybe even a hereditary condition passed on from his mother as she believed he was the son of God.

  If someone today believes they are the son of God or Satan or whoever, no one would believe them. They would be treated for mental illness.

  .... If Thanksgiving is so awful because it celebrates 'getting rid of the Indians' wiping them out? Know where I'm going with this? ....

  .....*scratches head .... Isn't that the same thing that JWs are waiting for? For a whole race to be wiped out? ?

  ok, this probably applies to most faith systems that believe in any sort of afterlife, but i would like to know what sort of explanation the jw's would come up with for this little problem, you know, after armageddon on earthly paradise.

  sorry if i sound dumb, but it's been nagging at me for a few weeks and have to ask.. so, what if a young married jw couple are living their life, waiting for the big a, knowing they will be together in the earthly paradise, then very sadly one of them dies.

  from what i know, if a jw dies, that's it.

  That is my point exactly Ucantnome. It would be devastating, But if the memory is wiped, how cruel is that! I really can't comprehend how this would be OK and to accept and believe it. How can anyone think it's ok to know you will not remember your loved ones?

  Flipper Thank you, I appreciate your brutal honesty! Haha! During my time lurking around here I have read a lot of your posts and admire your knowledge and I have learnt a lot.

  I do not fret over these things, I guess you could say I'm a complete heathen really! I do not believe in resurrection, I don't not believe in Armageddon, (If there ever was to be an Armageddon I do think it would be entirely man made and would not pick or choose who to save). I just wanted to get a JW perspective on what a JW 'truly' believes would happen in this situation. . . I have come to the conclusion that it's open to interpretation. I did not expect so many conflicting answers! Although, maybe I should have. As the WTS seems to flip flop constantly. . One hand not knowing what the other is doing? Miss W.

  i just wanted to intoroduce myself.

  i have been lurking for some time and finally decided to register and hopefully contribute to this great forum.. i am in my mid 30s and have never been in the truth.

  my wife became a jw several years ago and since she is a (mostly) stay at home mom my two boys are also jws.

  Prologos- Thank you, but I have absolutely no interest in becoming a JW. That will never, come hell, high water, pestilence or fire balls happen. I have seen the devastation it causes, both to physical health and mental health.

  I love your analogy of the male breast "structure without function" that does eloquently describe a lot of things I have witnessed (pardon the pun). I may well use that, if I may?

  I, sometimes unfortunately, have a thirst for knowledge. About things I find difficult to understand. This was one of those things that I could not get a clear answer on. And honestly? I'm still not sure! There seems to be a lot of difference in teachings, depending on how the question is asked. All designed, I suppose, to keep the 'ask-er' in line.

  Freegirl, I'm sorry about your Dad. I guess that teaching makes a lot of people feel like your Mom. It must have been a comfort to your Mom. x

  So, what if a young married JW couple are living their life, waiting for the Big A, knowing they will be together in the earthly paradise, then very sadly one of them dies. From what I know, if a JW dies, that's it. They are dead, nothing. But come the great tribulation, they will be reserected.

  What if a few years down the line the surviving spouse (I can't bring myself to say 'mate') finds love again and remarries? As they would be allowed to do as they are scripturally free to marry.

  Now come the time of the Big A. Earthly paradise is restored. And so is the first spouse. A spouse that died believing that they and their marriage partner would be in paradise together, but now finds that their partner has remarried and loves the new person they married *awkward*.

  What would happen? Because they died do they have to forfeit the happiness they thought they were getting? Does the surviving spouse have to leave the second spouse? How would the second spouse feel about it? . . . I don't know, but it doesn't sound much like paradise for any of them.

  I would just like to hear a rational explanation for this dilemma. I can't seem to come up with any solution in my head. Apart from ones that wouldn't please Jehovah!

  Do they know something we mere mortals don't? . . What happens if the results of Prince's death is from Drug abuse, as some of the speculation says (don't get me wrong, I hope not!!! I liked Prince.) . . . But will they retract the statement? Make excuses for him or themselves?

  . . I think they may have been a little previous in releasing a statement, it may come back to bite them on the bum!
